Reach 375k in market value for my DG portfolio
This one will be tough if the markets have a correction. I won’t mind though because I care more about dividend income.
Reach $14000 in forward 12-month dividends
This mean increasing my forward dividends by another $5500 annually. This will be tough.
Earn $5000 in options premiums
Very doable if the markets keep going up. However, it will be much harder if the market corrects as I’ll get assigned shares.
Earn $10000 in dividend income
This is double my 2013 goal. Again, very challenging but I think I will make this one.
Break $1500/mo in forward dividend + rental income
If I add a third rental then this one shouldn’t be too difficult.
Buy a third rental property
This will require a significant amount of cash as a down payment and will take some planning.
Increase net worth to 800k (596k to start the year)
At current income levels this should be achievable. The market could throw a wrench in this one though.
Produce 12mwh (12,000kwh) of electricity from solar
This is enough to cover more than half my usage from last year
Bring my total electric usage down to 17,500kwh (previously 19,233kwh for 2013)
Using LED bulbs, lighting timers and conservation, I will attempt this goal.
Reach 300k Pageviews
This one could prove difficult as this is triple my current pageviews.
Hit 25k Pageviews/month
Again this is difficult and about double my current views.
Finish the Yakezie challenge
I’m starting this week and hope to drop my Alexa ranking under 200,000 from 450k now.
I’ve also included how well I did in 2013. I met all goals but one which I consider pretty darn good. The goal I missed was a little out of my control as interested rates did not keep dropping, instead they marched back upwards.
2013 Goals:
Pay off my second lien by February 2013 on my primary residence saving $380.35/month. (done and posted in January)
Reach 180k in market value for my DG portfolio (completed and posted on 07/23/13)
Reach $6500 in forward 12-month dividends (completed and posted on 07/20/13, shooting for $8500 now)
Earn $3000 in options premiums (upped from $2500 on 02/18) (completed and posted on 07/12/13)
Earn $5000 in dividend income (completed and posted on 12/13/13)
Refinance primary residence at or below 3% on a 30-year fixed. (failed, interest rates didn’t cooperate)
Increase net worth to at least 450k (334k in Jan.) (completed and posted on 10/19, shooting for 525k now( met in Dec.))
Sell my car and buy a newer vehicle. (done in March and posted, bought an Audi S4)
My goal update posts can be found here.
That’s quite a range of goals AAI. I posted my goals today too, and many of them look like your goals for last year. Out of curiosity, is there a particular reason you have specific electric usage goals? or does it tie in with saving money?
May you meet them all in 2014!
-Bryan
Hi Fast Weekly,
Yeah, I will probably add more each year. I’ll be sure and check out your goals.
The reason for the electric usage goal is mainly because I want to reduce my usage. I posted about my monitoring system and I’ll probably post updates each month now also. I can literally be looking at the webpage for my system and flip a light on and It instantly goes up by what I’m using. I’m currently in the process of changing out bulbs into LED bulbs. I’m also getting a timer for my outside lights to save a couple hours a day. I have a few more ideas I’ll probably write about at some point.
Thanks and I hope you meet all of yours!
At the rate you’re going you will pass the new Goals. Good luck to you. 🙂
Thanks FFdividend. I don’t know, I’ve sent some extremely high goals. I hope I can and I know I’ll try hard!
Take care
These are a lot of big goals!
But who has no goals, does not get anywhere.
You are the champ!
I have read about your new car Audi S4.
A wonderful car!
I like Audi too – my company car is an Audi A4.
At March 2014, I may order an Audi A6.
204 HP – quattro – and a lot of small stuff.
Color: Gletscherweiß Metallic = Glacier White Metallic?
I think I have to be careful so that I do not drive too fast 🙂
Best regards
D-S
Hi D-S,
Thanks, I just hope I can achieve them all.
I love my Audi! I’m paying a lot to drive it lol and it’s my fault for ever test driving that car. It’s got the best handling of any car I’ve ever driven. I’m sure you love you A4 also. I also like the look of the A6/S6. Haha, be careful. 0-60 in 3.8 seconds is probably as fast as I ever will need. Although I always wanted a 911, we’ll see…
Cheers
Rock solid AAI! Love the goals, especially how aggressive you’ve been on the forward dividend goal. How much of your $5,000 option income goal do you think will be affected should the markets flatten or decrease. Since most of your strategy is selling puts, I’d imagine it would be tremendously more difficult should things start decreasing.
Hi writing2reality,
That forward dividend goal is one of my top goals to reach. Without hitting that each year I will be delaying my FI.
That’s a good question. However, If I sell puts against companies I want anyways I’m basically paid for placing a limit order. The market drop then I can either let the shares get assigned or buy back the puts. Since I’m not placing many speculative order, I’ll probably let the shares get assigned. For instance, I’ve got a KMI put that expires in June that I’d be happy to have assigned. I’d be picking up more shares at a cost of about $30/share. You’re right though about earning a profit. If shares are assigned then I have an unrealized loss usually and won’t be earning much immediate income.
Thanks for stopping by!
Awesome list of goals! Look forward to watching your 2014 progress.
cheers,AA
Hi AA,
Thanks buddy. I keep watching your purchases each week. We usually are buying some of the same companies; MCD, PM, KMI , etc.
Take care!
AAI, these are great goals and I bet very challenging. Mainly those on income side. I also have 5k in options income goal, so hopefully I will be able to reach it. Earn 10k in dividends is also great goal. Good luck on your goals and keep us posted on the progress.
Hi Martin,
Thanks alot. These are the most challenging goals I’ve ever set financially I believe. 5k in options is great but will be tough for me to hit if we get a correction. I won’t complain though because I’ll just buy more shares at cheaper prices anyways. I’ll be sure and keep posting updates. Stay tuned.
Cheers
Interesting list. The electric goal is a relatively easy one, I would think; a year or so ago, my neighbors were comparing electric bills because they thought that ComEd had screwed up, and I was shocked at how much more they paid than we did! It’s an easy place to find savings.
Hi Annie,
I hope so! I know my monitoring system has made my usage much more apparent. If you saw my post about changing my bulbs over to LED’s, that should help a lot.
Thanks for stopping by!
Wow, those are huge goals! May I ask how old you are? And I’m assuming you’re not married? A $200k net worth increase in one year would be pretty sweet! I think I’m still a few years out from that one.
Do you have programmable thermostats? That made a huge difference in my electricity usage. Getting it down to mostly/all first cost tier made a huge difference in the cost too.
When do you think you will be FI?
Hi Leigh,
I turned 34 this past fall and I’ve been married over two years. $200k is probably a little conservative considering I jumped $260k this past year. However, things have been a little slower lately at work and there’s a lot of expenses I’m incurring from our new office building we just bought.
I do but I haven’t found the optimal settings yet. Any recommendation? I also should have in the mail today two light timers I ordered from Amazon for my front lights. They are on a few extra hours each day currently because no timer is set up. It’s not that bad though since I’ve already switched the lights to LED’s. What do you mean by first cost tier?
My plan is to hit FI by 40. Of course, this is mainly due to me having high expenses. I could always lower some of my expenses and be there sooner.
I have daytime/nighttime settings on mine. The bedroom thermostat comes on from 5-9 am and then again from 5-11 pm. The living room thermostat comes on from 5:30-9 am and from 5-11 pm. I turn them down manually when I leave for work. That seems to mostly work for me. (I picked 5 am because I usually wake up at 6 am and it takes a bit to heat up.) I have them set to around 69 F in the winter and down to 60 F to keep them off in the summer since I don’t have A/C. It took a bit of playing around with it though.
