My total portfolio value hit $200k last week for the first time. While I’m not as concerned about my total portfolio value as I am about dividend income, it’s still nice to see the value increase with additions of new capital and capital gains.
I continue, regardless of what the market is doing, to add fresh capital to my portfolio by way of new purchases each week.
I’d like to keep my portfolio at around 40 positions. I do still need to work on my diversification though. If you read My Business Plan, you will notice that my sector weights and international diversity are close to my targets. However, I’d like to add a little more exposure to Mid-Cap stocks.
In order to received $60k in annual dividend income, I’ll need a portfolio valued at over 1.7 Mil that yields an average of 3.5%. So you can see, I’ve got a long ways to go to reach my goal.
It will be great to document my journey to FI. I appreciate everyone that has been supportive and that reads my blog. I try to be as transparent as possibly by posting all my trades, good or bad.
You can find my portfolio created from Google Docs that keeps a live snapshot here.
Long time lurker but a good time to post my first comment and congratulate you! As you say the total value of the portfolio isn’t as important as the dividend streams it creates but it’s always nice to reach new heights!
Well done!
All the best from Sweden.
Swe Dividend,
Thanks! I am glad you stopped by to comment all the way from Sweden. Sweden is on my list for traveling to so I hope to post pictures of being there some day!
Take care!
Nice milestone! If you continue to invest at this pace, it’ll take about 10 years to reach 1.7 Mil. The good news is that, in 10 years time, your average yield on cost should exceed 3.5% handsomely.
FerdiS,
Thanks for the support! I’m actually hoping to hit the 1.7 Mil mark by 2020. If you check my goals page I’ve listed my targets for forward income. That means I’ll have to continue to ramp up my purchases. I’m also hoping I can get an average yield closer to 3.75% which will allow me to reach that goal even sooner.
Thanks for stopping by!
wow congrats on the milestone. As long as you keep on posting, I’ll be following.
Thanks FFdividend,
I’m watching your blog as well and look forward to seeing you reach your own FI.
Cheers
Congrats on the new milestone! A few months from now I should be able to reach $100K and join you in the six-figure club.
Hi DGM,
Thanks buddy. The 100k milestone will be great. It’s important to celebrate these small milestones on the way to FI to keep ourselves motivated.
Thanks for dropping by
Congratulations on this milestone! Good luck in the future.
Dividend Dream,
Thanks! It sure is great motivation and lets me know that what I’m doing is working.
Good luck also!
Congrats on passing $200k. Due to the house purchase I’m under $100k, that’ll happen when you take nearly $40k out of your portfolio. I’m just glad that I get to start investing again and funneling as much free capital as possible towards FI.
Hey PIP,
Thanks. The house purchase is only a minor setback for your dividend growth portfolio but a luxury that can give you a lot of satisfaction for a long time. It also keeps the wife happy lol. Now you can concentrate on growing your portfolio again.
Take care!
AAI,
Congratulations! Although the portfolio value is secondary to portfolio income, it’s still really encouraging to see new milestones like this. Really fantastic. The growth has been phenomenal. Keep it up!
Best wishes.
Hi DM,
I appreciate the support. I agree that it’s secondary to the income but can be really motivational.
Keep up the good work on your end! You are motivating a lot of people yourself.
Congrats on the milestone!!
isn’t it sometimes depriving seeing you have a long time to go ahead of you? Sometimes I feel like I will never make it. You are probably younger than me, so you may have a lot better chance to get there, but I feel sometimes skeptical.
Well you are definitely a lot closer to your goal now and it is motivating for me to fix my finances quickly and start savings and investing even harder. Good job.
Hi Martin,
Thanks! That’s why I focus on smaller goals along the way. I still do have a long ways to go but as long as I’m making progress then I’m keeping myself motivated.
Good luck on your end as well!
